How responses are generated

Suppose a student asks: “Why does carbon dioxide warm Earth?” The chatbot does not usually retrieve one complete sentence from a hidden answer sheet. It processes the prompt, estimates possible next tokens, chooses one, then repeats the process:

Carbon → dioxide → absorbs → some → infrared → radiation …

Each new token becomes part of the context for choosing the next one. The result can feel planned even though it is produced step by step.
